If you grind your teeth at night on a regular basis, or if you have a bad habit of nibbling on pens and pencils, it can badly chip or fracture your teeth. This is even more likely to happen if you participate in contact sports without wearing a quality mouthguard.

Small fractures and chips can sometimes be repaired by a dental filling. If the fracture has a significant amount of tooth enamel, your dentist, Dr. Christopher M. Granillo, DDS, LLC, might recommend replacing all of the tooth enamel with a dental crown in Tucson, Arizona.

Your dentist will numb the area and use a drill to remove all the tooth enamel. This leaves behind an abutment containing the dentin, pulp and root of the tooth.

Your dentist will then form a detailed impression of the area to serve as a guide for a dental lab technician who will make your new crown. At the end of the appointment, a hard, plastic, temporary crown will be secured over the abutment to protect it.

Once the dental lab technician has completed your crown, we will call you back in to have the temporary crown removed and the new crown cemented into place.

If you have recently fractured or chipped a tooth, you should not delay in contacting Christopher M. Granillo, DDS, LLC at 520-298-5556 to have it treated and repaired.
